Let's Spruce it Up - Part 2

Here we are with our layouts from the "Spruced Up" G1194 workshop kit. Remember, this is the kit with all elements that you need to create these pages:

But know let's see the other two layouts that come with the set:

I really love this setting. While the original design only asked for 3 pictures, I used some extra cardstock and added a few more. I also changed the line up of the borders on the bottom of the page just a bit. I cut about 1/4" of the middle border and stacked them closer together than in the original layout. Some Clear Shimmer was added to the trees including the wooden ones.

The background paper is one design of 6 from the Spruced Up paper pack. The trees are pre-die cut and the deer and little trees are from the sticker sheet. The wooden elements are also included in this set so there is no looking for matching embellishment ;-)

The right page combings a cute tree cut out and more die cut trees and wooden elements. The row of trees seen here is special. They come on one of the die cut sheets but also contain fold lines. Fold the trees accordingly, open them back up and adhere them loosely to the page. A super cute 3D effect without adding any bulk to your pages.

Last but not least, here is the third double page layout of the workshop kit:

This was a layout were I didn't really needed to change anything. I liked it the way it came...well ;-) you know me beside one little change. Instead of placing the little bird into the middle frame of the right page I used it for a photo spot and added the birdie on top.
I did used some clear shimmer that I brushed on the berries and some branches.

The circle frames are easy to punch out and you can use the inner circle as a template for your pictures. I placed the frame on thin foam squares so it pops up a little and it makes it easy to slight the pictures in the circles. The branches are either die cuts or stickers. A few wooden elements round up this pages.

The other page mirrors the first page in elements and decor. Like I stated before, I used the middle ring for another photo spot and added the little bird above the first circle.
I really love our new workshop kits, because they completely take the guess work out of creating matching pages. Everything in the kit works well with each other. If you are a beginning scrapbooker you can relay on the guide and create wonderful pages with ease. If you are a pro you can take the inspiration and change it up anyway you like.

Next Friday we will look into the "Celebrate Today Scrapbook Workshop Kit G1193" and explore what we can create with this kit. By the way, with those changes I did, I still had a lot of stickers left, as well as wooden elements and 3/4" of a 12"x 12" design paper sheet. Inn previous kits I had even more leftovers for more pages to add to the 3 double page layouts the kit includes.

Let's Spruce it Up

Welcome to 2020. I know January is over and I am super late with my first post, but like I said before "Live happens" so let's not waist anytime:

The new life cycle of the Close to My Heart books is 2 months which means, every two month you will see a brand new Idea Book with at least two new paper packs, embellishments, stamps and so much more. Today I would like to introduce you the the super cute paper pack "Spruced Up" X7253S. Here is a look at the paper pack:
Doesn't this paper calls for outdoor, winter or Christmas pictures? I thought I explore the Scrapbooking Workshop Kit a little bit closer for you. The new styled kits are simply great. Beside the info sheet with cutting guide and assembly instructions you will get all embellishments and die-cuts ready to go in this kit. The "Spruced Up Scrapbooking Workshop Kit G1194"
has all the materials to create 3 double page layouts. If you click on the link above you can see the original 3 double layouts which you can create with this kit. I often change up a few things to make the pages work even better for my pictures or to add extra photos to the layout. You can change anything you like which is the beauty of these kits. I added three cardstock sheets to the set too make a few extra changes.
Here are my first two pages:

Both of these pages were meant to be single layouts but I converted them into a double page layout. All elements you can see here came with the kit. I added a sheet of Mink and Espresso  cardstock for my backgrounds.

The original design of this page used the "chickadee" paper as a background, which was cute, but a bit busy for me. I changed it to the solid mink cardstock and used the design paper to create a new piece for the top of the frame. The original has a green piece but I thought I needed a little birdie cheer in this one. Otherwise, the rest of this page is just like the guide describes it.
The second page is also exactly like the guide asked for beside the background. It calls for a vanilla cardstock which I found a little to light so I changed it to the Espresso color which made the frame and trees really pop. I also used a "Clear Shimmer Brush"Z3293 on the tips of the trees and the snow on the bottom.

See pages 3-6 in next Fridays post and find out what the other cute paper pack looks like. If you are interested in the "Spruced Up" papers and extras, make sure to order them soon since they will disappear on February 28th. They are now on while supplies last.

My "Snowhaven" page kit re-designed

Here is another example of a challenge I put myself into. A few Fridays ago I presented you a re-designed version of my "Brushed" page kit. I had so much fun with the re-design that I tackled another one. You can click HERE to see the original layout I designed with this kit!

This one is a winter scene, yes, in the middle of summer, but I thought this one shows even more how much options you have using one and the same paper pack/ page kit to create two or more completely different layouts.

Like with the "Brushed" one, this "Snowhaven" kit was already pre-cut and stamped. So first I took out all my parts and placed them on each side the way they were intended originally.

I started by moving things around and thinking about how to cut the old picture mats (the big one) into smaller ones. An open window blew a few of my papers around and flipped them over....Wait a second! Yeah, Close to My Heart design papers are all double sided, so why not use the backside of them, right?

Well, and this is what I came up with:

The left page changed quite a bit if you compare it to the original design. I used the big strip on the bottom and tore the paper away from the area the stamped imagine of the two skating kids was. I also cut the big blue and grey cardstock pieces down and converted them into multiple size.

The right page changes as well. Beside using the backsides of each paper, I arranged the the photo mats in a more loose way and added one extra mat that came from the grey piece of the left page.

I think it is really amazing to see two totally different looking layouts which are based on the same pre-cut page kit, don't you think so? Leave me a comment and let me know which layout would be your favorite and have you ever tried to change a kit? I wold love to hear from you.

If you have questions, like to check out one of my classes or would love to purchase items seen here on the blog, please contact me!

My "Brushed" Layout in a re-designed version

Here is a layout that might look familiar to some of you who are following my blog on a regular base. Well it kinda is an old friend restyled a bit if I might say so...

So what do I mean by that. I happen to come across two of my "Brushed" layout kits. I designed these kits a while ago and thought, well, all parts are pre-cut and the design is pretty much done too so what can I do to change things up a little. Well and this is what I came up with:

I took all my parts out of the kit and put them in front of me. I looked at my old design and started to move things around. Suddenly I thought, why not change the left side of my design by cutting the big photo mat in two and cutting the flower paper square on a diagonal. Voila, here is the re-designed left side. All I added extra were these cute little butterflies.

I moved the flower ensemble between the two photo mats and added the black little stitches for the butterflies and the faux stitching around the jounaling block.

I did leave the right page in tacked, since I really liked the many photo and journaling possibility. Only a few butterflies were added here and some of the black stitching.

Click here to see the original layout and leave me a comment which one you like better and why.

I really liked the little challenge I placed myself into and it was so much fun that I did the same with two more layouts. So stay tuned for more ideas to come...

Please email me if you have questions or like to explore any of my classes.

Frozen - Elsa and Anne - Page Layout

This is the last of the six layouts I made for customers during the Davisburg Spring crop in March.

I had the characters done during another crop I had attended, since they need some time to adhere together. Many layers and tiny part and this takes a little time to finish.

My last layout for this set was inspired by Elsa and Anna. Do to the cutting function "mirror" on the Cricut Explore, I was able to create my characters for left and right pages.

I picked a medium blue cardstock for the background.
The light blue cardstock was cut down to a 10"x10" piece. When I adhered the light blue to the dark, I made sure the distances between top and bottom are the same. I placed the left piece a bit closer to the left side and the right closer to the right side. When you look at the pages right next to each other, the left, middle(both pages) and right space is equal. Hard to describe, hope it makes sense :-)

This time I used a third blue and peacock cardstock as my photo mats. I place an extra white cardstock piece on top with rounded corners. My snowflakes are added with foam dots to the page. I only place the foam in the middle of each flake, this way it is easier to tuck the pictured underneath.

Both characters are raised with foam dot's as well since this makes them stand out from the rest just a bit.

All flakes are decorated with blue or clear rhinestones. This is a more simple design, but with all of these, you want to emphasize the wonderful characters and at the same time let your photos shine. Sometimes less is more ;)

I did think about adding faux stitching with a white pen around the pages and maybe some doodling on the photo mats, but time was running out. You could add this to it, but I think the layout looks fine as it is.

If you missed the other five layouts from the past Fridays, click on the "Frozen" Label on the right and check them out. I would love to hear from you, so leave a comment or email me.

Come join me for a fun class on how to make your own layout matching your photos. Or, if you like to buy a layout, contact me with your wishes and for more information. Stay tuned for more layout to come....see whats new next Friday.

Frozen - Sven - Page Layout

Remember the first layout of Frozen I published on the blog? No, well check it out HERE.

The wonderful glitter paper with the pine trees in the background I used in the first layout was actually cut in half. In this new layout I used the second half of it. I just can't waist anything and these cute deer's are a great compliment to Sven.

Sven, like the other characters used in my layouts were cut with the Cricut Explore. All characters are made up of different layers and tiny pieces. Lot's of work if you never assembled one, but so worth it.

I found a matching piece of cardstock that would work with the glitter one on the left side. I tried it on a white background, but I thought this was too blank. Instead I used a dark grey cardstock for my base. The dark color brings the glitter and deer really to shine.

Sven is so impressive he didn't really needed much embellishment. So I simply decided on the amount of pictures I planed on using for this layout and matted them on Close to My Heart peacock cardstock. I place my snowflakes randomly on the page. Some tucked under the photo mat or cut in half and added to the sides of my mats.

Any white mat can be used for photos or journaling. I added three strips of whit paper to the left side which can be used as titles or journaling as well. A few rhinestones in the middle of the snowflakes and spread out on the pages will finish this one off.

How do you like my Friday "Frozen" series so far? Interested in creating your own layout? Would you like to buy or make one? In any event, just contact me for more information. I would love to hear from you.

Frozen - Olaf and Olaf - Page Layout

Here is another sample of a Frozen layout I made. This time I picked Olaf as the main character and the nice Frozen title to go with it.

Let talk a bit about how to start one of these layouts. I usually look at the characters I pick and take my inspiration from there. For example, Olaf is a snowman after all, so snow, snowflakes, whites and blues and a bit of glitter would work great here.

Looking through my stack of papers I found a design paper with white, blue and red dots on it. It's a Christmas paper, but I think more of winter of it and the red gives a little pop of color to the layout. Next I picked a dark blue cardstock pulled from the Frozen title and a light blue cardstock picked from the title and Olaf's mouth. These are the main three papers I used here.

Try to keep the amount of different papers used in a layout to 3-4. This will make it easier for you to create your design. Make sure you add a neutral color to the group, white, cream, brown, grey or black for example.

As I mentioned before, all these fun characters and the title were cut with the Cricut Explore. Lot's of layers and tiny pieces, but worth the effort. The beauty of using a Cricut cutting machine is that beside cutting different size, you can easily mirror the image which gives you even more layout options.

With all the colors and the fun and crazy character I picked, I thought a layout with many squares would be a great idea. I cut my three papers in 3" x 3" squares and rounded the corners. The hard part was to lay them down in a pattern that looks random, but will not place two of the same color next to each other. Once the squares were place I looked at a rather busy design. To bring it all together, I decided to use plain Daisy White cardstock as my background paper.

In the next step I adhered all my squares to the background. If you are not sure the previous layout of your squares will be the one you end up using, place them on the white cardstock without adhering. I often also add my characters, title and embellishments (here the snowflakes) to it. This makes it easy to see the almost finished pages and you can easily move things around and see if other option might work better....I call this "Dry Fitting"! Sometimes an idea I started with changes during this process.

If I am happy what I see I start putting things in place with adhesive. I usually add the characters with foam dots to the pages. Title and squares are glues direct to the paper. Some squares might be on foam dots depending on how much more 3d effect I need.

The extra white squares (2 3/4") are added to a few colored squares. Those can be uses for photos or as journaling etc. Depending on the amount of photos you have, you can always use any of the other squares as photo mats as well. Snowflakes are added with foam dots and I used blue rhinestones as snowballs for the juggling Olaf's. Once everything was adhered I looked at my layout and still, something was missing. I decided to add hand-drawn stitching around the pages and some of the squares.

Each layout is individual and depending on the the characters different colors and designs are used. Try it yourself and see how much fun it can be to make a layout for your photos.

You can join me for a page making class working on layouts specifically fitting your photos. Like to order a layout? No problem, whatever it is you like to know or do, email me for more information. Come join me and see how easy it can be. Stay tuned for more to come ...
